pre-doomsday journal

Mon Sep 7, 2009, 4:59 PM
School starts tomorrow. Which also means I need to crack down on the scholarships/finding colleges/applying to said colleges issue. >__>; I'm interested in entering pre-med, but it's really not my strong suit, so I'm kind of nervous. This is going to be a stressful year.

I went to the State Fair with my sisters Shannon and Gina. I was excited to see a musical my friend was a part of, but lo and behold, swine flu attacked and sent everybody participating home. The whole time we were there, we had to sanitize our hands after everything and were screened at least once a day to make sure we weren't ill. So that sucked. Darn swine flu is so overrated. :(
Anyway, I spent three days walking around the fair with Gina and indulging on the wonders that are fair food. We of America believe that you can sell monstrously huge buckets of chocolate chip cookies at our fairs. This is the shining example of our proud nation. xDD I had cinnamon roasted almonds, which probably aren't too good for you, but they're a far cry from a large popcorn-sized bucket of cookies. I'm mortified that we even have those... D:
I visited with my godparents while we were there, which was quite grand. I have the best godparents you can find, bahahaha! Gina and I were skulking around outside the fair waiting for Karen (godmom) to take us to the bookstore, and I found this sketchy little tent owned by an Asian family. I go in and look around to find that they're selling DVDs for like $7 dollars apiece with the second DVD being half off.
Me: *thinking* I wonder if this is legal...
Possibility of DVD tent being illegal: %50
So I finally bought Memoirs of a Geisha, which is one of my favorite movies, and another movie called "The Girl Who Leapt Through Time". I'd heard a good review on it and it was half off, soo... yeah. x3
I got home and watched Memoirs, which went perfectly fine, no scratches or anything on the disk. I was pleased.
Possibilty of DVD tent being illegal: %30
Later, however, I popped The Girl Who Leapt Through Time into my computer and starting watching. The special features menu doesn't work and neither does the "commentary with directors" option.
Possibility of DVD tent being illegal: %50
I start watching. The movie itself is good, but as soon as the characters start calling the main character "true piano" I realize that something's up. Her name is Makoto. Her friend Chiaki is referred to as "thousands". From there on the subtitles get worse and worse, abandoning any concept of proper grammar in favor of the very bare bones of the lines and quite possibly incorrect translations.
Chiaki: (in the correctly subbed ver. of the movie) "Hey, I'm not that ugly, am I?"
Chiaki (in MY ver.): "is not ugly"
Me: "WTF I CAN'T UNDERSTAND A THING" xDDD

Possibility of DVD tent being illegal: %104

It was a good movie, though. xDDD I'm thinking I'll have to buy the good version so I can watched without being inhibited by crappy subtitles... or I'll learn Japanese. Or not.

I started reading Paradise Lost. I was all "wtf" through chapter one, so many references and confusing names. >__>; Maybe I'm in too deep.

AND ALSO, SKILLET, I LOVE YOU. I found their new CD, Awake, in Target (which I also love) and BOUGHT IT BECAUSE I WAS SO EXCITED. 8DD Some pretty good stuff. I'm thinking I like Comatose a LITTLE more, but that's okay, because Comatose was pretty darn epic. It helped me get through the disappointment of another newly released album... :3

I wonder if I should just make a new account and start over. It sounds pretty tempting.

I love my ability to make huge journals out of nothing. xD

  • Mood: Gloomy
  • Listening to: Skillet - Awake and Alive
  • Reading: Paradise Lost (trying, anyway)
